StackWM ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in relation to the StackWM macOS application and its associated website.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

StackWM is a native macOS utility. We believe your data belongs on your computer. We do not collect analytics, crash reports, behavioral data, or use any third-party trackers or advertising IDs.

2. Data We Collect and Why

A. Purchase Information

We do not process payments directly. All purchases are handled by Creem (creem.io), our payment processor. When you buy a license, Creem collects your email address and payment details to fulfill the order. Your payment information never touches our servers.

B. License Key

When you activate StackWM, the license key issued by Creem is stored locally on your Mac. The app may periodically verify this key against Creem's servers to confirm its validity. No other data is transmitted during this process.

C. System Permissions (Screen Recording)

To detect window positions and provide window management features, StackWM requires the macOS Screen Recording permission.

  • Local only: All window detection happens entirely on your machine.
  • No transmission: StackWM never records, saves, or sends your screen content, screenshots, or window metadata to any external server.

D. Voluntary Information

  • Discord: If you join our Discord community, we will see your Discord username and any information you voluntarily share there. Discord's own privacy policy governs data collected on their platform.
  • Blog / Newsletter: If you subscribe to blog updates, we collect only your email address to send those notifications. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

To be explicit, we do not collect:

  • Analytics or usage data
  • Crash reports or diagnostic telemetry
  • Behavioral or interaction data
  • Advertising IDs
  • Cookies or third-party tracking pixels

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with Creem as necessary to process your purchase and manage your license.

5. Your Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal data we hold (typically: your email and license status via Creem).
  • Delete your data. Note that deleting your data will invalidate your license key.
  • Opt out of any voluntary communications (newsletter, etc.) at any time.

6. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top when changes occur. Continued use of StackWM after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
